MELAIR Elevated Forecourt ITS Feasibility Study

Melbourne Airport Authority

Prepared a study report that explored a range of ITS technologies to support the new Melbourne Airport terminal forecourt development to deliver a controlled environment within which the private, public, commercial and pedestrian traffic can access, utilise and leave the infrastructure in the most efficient, safe and timely manner. The Feasibility Study considered targeted ITS technologies for each of the traffic modes:

  • private vehicles for passenger drop-off and pick-up
  • commercial and precinct transport vehicles
  • taxi and limousine services for drop-off and pick-up
  • way-finding for passengers

The feasibility report considers:

  • the emerging technologies in recent and near-term transportation hubs that are applicable to the Elevated Forecourt
  • how ITS technologies can be applied to the proposed Elevated Forecourt to satisfy APAMs vision for the new structure
  • how existing and future management applications can be addressed
  • how forecourt ITS systems would be integrated with other ITS systems proposed for the broader airport precinct.
